lets just say that when phelps was 14 he went 1:59.02 in the 200 fly as far as i know no other 14 year old has ever gone faster than 2:03 besides him. a couple of his yards records got broken by ricky berens....a better resource though would be the usaswimming top 100 list it will show the top 100 kids ever for an event in an age group and phelps name is throughout there even when they arent nag records...the one thing i would show to your son though is the times that phelps could go in the distance free events when he was 13/14. because the endurance phelps built up when he was that age and younger is why he is such a phenomenal swimmer now.

From what i understand when he was 11 he was doing a set of 100s on 1:05 going under 1min so yeah thats pretty insane. If you go to http://www.usa-swimming.com and go to the National Age Group records he will be on there for sure. I think he plateaued a bit when he was 11 and 12 but when he was 9, 10 and 13, 14 he put up alot of national records but some may have been broken by now.

How fast was Michael when he was 12 ? My son wants to be the next Michael Phelps and I want him to know just how fast he has to be at that age.

Yes I do know him actually. Talked to him many times. And that is exactly what he is like in person. He doesnt think much, he just swims. He probably didnt think about it much at all. Thats all, nothing mean.

(obviously not) I dont mean do you know him from watching him on tv or meeting him once, like, do you actually know him and see how he treats people when hes not around the media. Hes not stupid, it was a simple question he obviously just didnt give a crap about answering it which is BS. You guys are morons. Michael is one of the nicest guys in the world and better at what he does than any of you could ever hope to be. The guy is nothing but honest and I am sure he was just surprised by the question and getting bombarded by tons of people right after he swam.
